Today we had a guest speaker for our Inquiry. Our topic is about religions and eachweek we work on a different one ,this week we are looking at the jewish religion so we are having a jewish guest speaker [Ina]. First we looked at some jewish symbols we saw the menorah [a candle with 7 strokes] and the hanukkiah [a candle with 9 strokes].

Then we looked at  the hebrew alphabet theres something special about the hebrew alphabet because over time the hebrew letters have changed in form and guess what in there books they read from right to left and we read from left to right.
After that we looked at the torah [scroll] it was so sacred you couidn't even touch one.

Then she told us about the food there aloud to eat and not aloud to eat. After that she told us about the laws of the jews and she said that there were 613 but in a case of an emergency you can leave out 610.

Then she told us about a celebration.[hanukkah]we learned that its in december and everyone puts hanukkiah in there windows to show that their celebrating it.

It is important to walk lightly on our planet. We want to leave small footprints- not use too many of nature's resources. How can we help the planet and reduce our footprint?

Making PLANETS

Write about how we made planets here please!
In writing we have been looking at science fiction. For art this term Room16 made paper planets and pictures of our face. We started by bringing news paper to school and then started  ripping it up. A couple of weeks ago the ripped up paper was soaked in a bucket of water for us to make into paper pulp. Then we started to rip the news paper that was soaked in a bucket of water until it was mushy enough to squeeze out.We had to squeeze out all the water. While we were squeezing  and making planets a 6.0 after shock  struck at 2.25. We had to go under the table. Some of the planets have turned out really good since we started making them. Our face that we made have also turned out good but some have brock and some people made 2 of them just in case there one bracks.

In our last inquiry we learned about why people migrate and what effects it has on them, on the new places they come to and on the environment. We learnt about the early settlers who first migrated to NZ and also about modern day migrants.

We enjoyed interviewing some parents who have migrated to NZ. Two from Zimbabwe, one from Fiji and one from Kenya.
